Life On The Reservation

The average life on the majority of reservations leaves a lot to be desired.

With an 85% unemployment rate, an average annual income of $2,500 - $3,000 (per household), a high infant mortality rate and the highest suicide rate in the nation, the Pine Ridge Indian reservation is ranked #1 of the poorest and most depressed areas in North America.  Therefore, the Lakota people of the Pine Ridge Indian reservation, South Dakota, is where we are presently focusing our attention.

In a community such as Pine Ridge, hope can be the difference between life and death. Outside support can give the people something to hope for.  So, BICONA has sprung into action, in an effort to bring hope and save lives.

The dream is to bring attention and support to the third-world conditions that plague many reservations and to save lives at the same time.

The "all Indians are rich because they get money from the government and/or casinos" rumor is just that; a rumor.

It is true that a small handful of nations have successful casinos and, although a few do what they can to help out other nations, it is not enough.  The people desperately need help.
